Q: If I was wanting to cut out a donut sticker with a center cut in the "hole" part of the donut, would this machine do that? Also does this function as a printer since it states it is a Writing Machine

submitted by jack123 - 11 months ago
  • A: The machine would absolutely be capable of cutting that! While the Joy is not a traditional printer with ink, it does have the ability to draw/write using Cricut pens in junction with the Design Space software.

Q: Does this cut 8.5 in x 11 in sticker paper into 1 in squares?

submitted by Kids projects - 1 year ago

Q: do I need the internet in order to use it. Can I use the Cricut cartridges in it?

submitted by yama - 3 years ago
  • A: If you don't want to link your cartridges to the software ( a big job) then Explore Air 2 has a slot to insert cartridges.

submitted byCraftyS - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Yama, you can use this machine with the Design Space application or Joy application. Cartridge's are able to be linked to our software to use. If you have further questions please feel free to reach out to us at cricut.com/contact.

Q: Can this machine cut crepe paper? Also can it cut multiple sheets at once?

submitted by Bebe - 4 years ago
  • A: Crepe paper is NOT a food item. It is a light, crinkly paper that is PRIMARILY used for party streamers. This being said, it PROBABLY won't work in the Cricut.

submitted byHmmmmmmmmmmno - 3 years ago
  • A: We don't recommend cutting any food products with our machine as they aren't made with food safety in mind. We also don't have specific settings for multiple layers of product as it needs to stick to the mat or go through the smart rollers in order to feed through the machine. If you have any further questions let us know! cricut.com/contact

This machine is extremely basic. You cannot make custom labels. This does not have a print then cut feature. This machine can only cut or draw with a pen. You cannot design anything with a real picture.

Great machine with one flaw

Great little machine for smaller projects. I have the explore but like making cards and dragging out the big machine to do a single card was a hassle. My only complaint is that the part of the plug that plugs into the machine likes to come loose which can be frustrating.

Frustrated

3 out of 5 stars
Summmrr - 3 months ago

I've owned my Cricut Joy for a few years now and although, when it works, it works great, most of the time it is a struggle to get it to connect and accept the vinyl I'm using. Most of the time it will sit and do nothing, with the light on top blinking. I typically have to retry up to 10 times before it will connect properly and cut what I've chosen. I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue multiple times with no success. I have several projects on hold because I simply do not want to deal with the frustration of reconnecting repeatedly and hoping that it will work.

Waste of money

I bought this a couple years ago when my maker quit and I was waiting for a new one. Thought it would be useful even when I had my maker back. It is awful. It cannot be plugged in so it's always relying on wifi. Not great when you are at a market and have to pair with a phone. The tools and pens do not match those of the maker so you have to buy all new ones. Every time I go to use it there is an issue so I don't even bother anymore. So mad that I wasted my money on this.

Mixed feelings

I was so excited to get the joy. Happy that it was fitting my pocket. Then it came I realised this joy has very limited value. I can’t edit. I start my design on my phone app and make my canvas and when it’s time to print it says doesn’t support your machine. I waste more time designing and get no results. It’s ok for a child not professional designer.

Loving the Cricut Joy

Loving the Cricut Joy!! I bought it to take to crops and to use in our trailer instead of taking my larger explore 3. But its so handy sitting right by my laptop and cuts most everything I need that I find myself using it about 95% of the time. Love its small footprint and cuts great!!!!

Love and meh it

I've used the large machines but moved into a tiny home. So no room. The Joy is a good machine and fills some of my needs. And i do understand it was meant for small crafts so i can't be too judgy about the limitations. There are two issues, though, that killed those last two stars. It doesn’t matter what device I use, i have to go into Blutooth, forget the Joy and pair it again EVERY TIME I WANT TO USE IT. Every. Single. Time. I can't find the right cut to keep it from tearing faux leather. This also happens every time no matter which brand I use - including Cricut brand. I've always had to fix my own issues with the other machines, cuz support is under educated, so i never bothered to call. I just accept these issues as short comings with a 3 star rating.

Love but the Rubber Rollers Need Replacement

3 out of 5 stars
Crafty Marlowe - 10 months ago
originally posted on Cricut
This is my 2nd Cricut Joy. I love this little machine. My only gripe is that the rubber rollers go through wear and tear, and Cricut has no way of replacing or fixing it for you. They need to make this part replaceable. Videos online to fix it yourself reveal that it's quite complicated to get into, and this wasn't built to be easily fixable. The components are not easy to take apart.

I LOVED it. bought so much vinyl and NOW YOU discontinue the app so i need to pay monthly to use this machine. REALLY!!!!!! I don’t use it every month I go 3-4 months without using it. I am so mad. it really should be free. so i have to basically pay 10 to use it every time.
