Q: is there a monthly charge?

submitted by kelli - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello kelli, Out of the box, the Ring Video Doorbell is designed to keep you connected to your home in real time, no matter where you are. The optional Ring Protect Plan is available for as little as $3/month per device. With this, videos of each ring, motion, and live view event are stored in the cloud, allowing you to review, share, and save them at your leisure. Here is an informative article regarding the plan options currently available: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/categories/115000385923-Protect-Plan-Support. Without a plan, you will still receive real time motion and ring alerts, as well as have access to the Ring Live View feature. If you are having trouble accessing Live View quickly enough, try downloading the Rapid Ring app. Rapid Ring app works in conjunction with your regular Ring app, but enables you to get notifications faster and respond faster. I decided to purchase a Ring Doorbell after my packages were getting stolen regularly, also because the maintenance guys at my apartment complex would enter randomly without any warning. I love that I can see exactly who comes up to my door and can speak to them through the camera if needed, I feel much more secure. I also haven't had a single package stolen since installing the Ring doorbell. I've read complaints about the battery life but I honestly think it's really good, I only have to charge it once every couple of months and it takes about 5-6 hours to charge. I'm also impressed how it can withstand negative temps outside without being damaged. The only thing I don't like is sometimes it would cut off recording before the person in front of my door had walked away, there were a couple suspicious acting people who came to my door but the recording cut out so I don't know what they were up to or when they ended up walking away. Otherwise it has been worth the purchase and the monthly subscription.

Hi Comfy pajamas. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the battery life issue you mentioned in your review. It sounds like your device is not performing as you expected. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) was designed with the ability to customize based on your home's environment and provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love the opportunity to work with you to ensure your device is set up for optimal performance. While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), the more your battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look at or speak through your camera. As most of our Ring cameras and doorbells are powered by lithium-ion batteries, it's important to note that at temperatures below 40 °F, the battery is less effective at holding a charge and may require more frequent recharges. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance. You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery. To access Power Settings, open the Ring app: Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard. Tap Devices. Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check. Tap Power Settings to check your "Battery Level" percentage and "Feature Power Usage." Tap a feature to adjust "Snapshot Capture," "Motion Frequency," and "Video Recording Length." To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app, you can: Adjust your "Motion Sensitivity" slider to a lower sensitivity. Redraw your "Customizable Motion Zones." Change "Motion Frequency" to regularly or periodically. You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion. Here is a helpful article that details more steps that can be taken to increase the time between battery recharges: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208190773-The-Battery-In-My-Ring-Device-Seems-to-Drain-Too-Fast. If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), please reach out to our community. A great piece of kit. Even at nighttime I have a great view of what is going on at my front door. Easy for my husband to install as a complete novice, and I get notifications everytime there is movement. This also has a speaker so I can talk to delivery drivers when I am away from the house. There is a small subscription every month to use the camera element and keep viewing from an app which I wasn’t aware of at purchase but it’s the price you pay for piece of mind.

We own a few ring devices. It is hardwired so the battery life lasts forever. It is wonderful to know when somebody is entering the entrance way of our home and if we're not home we can speak to the people at the door. One of the features I love on the doorbell ring is there is different sayings that you can have the ring doorbell say and during the holidays they change I love that feature my husband doesn't but I do I think it's cute and funny at times

I love my ring doorbell, at first I was skeptical about installation but once I opened up the box it was very easy I think it took a total of 5 minutes to install, the instructions were very easy to follow. The actual camera records day or night and I live all the features it has. I cannot wait to pick up more from ring.

I actually bought two of these when they were on sale for half price because we were leaving to go to Disney and it gave me peace of mind. The only thing I hate about it is it cost $50 a year for their service or $100 if I want to do both of them, but it’s well worth $50 a year they give you for free for a month to try out if you’re not willing to spend the $50 a year it’s not worth buying

We love our ring and use it basically everyday! The installation was very easy. You can set it how you want for motion detection. Video quality is good and battery lasts a long time

Amazing quality & sound. Love the fact you can change the capture area to your own preference, along with how often it will capture. It’s got fun holiday sounds for the doorbell sound. Super easy to install whether you hardwire or get a slide over cover to hold it onto door into place if you are renting. The battery life without the solar is actually fairly decent.

Very convenient monitoring home. The notifications are easily accessible on the app. Long battery life I do suggest getting a solar power battery pack for this so you don’t forget to charge it. Installation is very easy and I would definitely purchase new items from them

This is the best doorbell camera I have tried. I like that I can set how far the camera will detect and notify me so I’m not constantly receiving notifications of the bush moving in the wind. Easy to set up, app is easy to use. The battery life is decent so we bought a solar panel.

Trying the Ring was a easy Installion abd setup takes some time to get the preference you like. The quality is more than appears with the two way sound and microphone. The Motion detection settings is neat because you can set the area you wish to detech motion. I have been pleased with my Ring and battery life depends on how often its triggered and how often you leave the unit active. I recommend the Ring to people who needs some security at a much affordable price.
