Q: How sturdy are these boxes? I've had Sterilite in the past that tended to bend with weight and use. Maybe they're stronger now?

A: Hi Jo, Sterilite products are made of polypropylene and polyethylene, and are designed for general household storage. Most household storage purposes do not require suggested weight limitations. Sterilite products have not been specifically tested for various weight potential, and suggest consumers use good judgment and not overload them or stack more than three high. Loved the item just what I needed although the first one was mailed and was smashed and broken luckily this time this one wasn’t broken but the shipping box looked like it went through a storm I’m surprised it wasn’t broke. The lid broke and I can not replace just the lid. Ill have to fins another product were the top is more sturdy. Sucks because other then the lid issue its a good file box.

While this says it is 18-1/2" long, this is very deceptive. on each side is a decorative piece of plastic, and they are measuring this into the size - but it is on the sides of this box, so it is basically 2 inches shorter on each side, meaning it's more like 14" long. Inside is the same - there is plastic to hang files, and that takes up space, so if you are looking for a box 18-1/2" long to have something that size fit inside here, look elsewhere. Sterlite, this is deceptive and wrong - the box should be measured from the inside so people can buy the correct size for what they need, NOT adding decorative plastic past those dimensions and counting that.

Plastic seems a bit thinner or flimsy compared to other brands or other totes in general. Hoping it'll work for storing kids' school papers/projects. Won't be surprised if it cracks easily. Look for a more hefty tote.

File boxes were sent in a very large box with no protective package at all. If they had been available in store for pickup would have likely worked. Note not enough broken fragments were in the box to piece them together, likely sent broken.
