We stand behind everything we sell. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it for a replacement or refund—with a few exceptions—within one (1) year of the purchase date if you are an REI Co-op Member or within 90 days of your purchase if you are not a member.

REI purchases of new items can be returned by mail or at any of our REI stores with proof of purchase, regardless of whether you bought the item online, in a store or by phone. (Please note: Re/Supply stores are unable to accept returns of any kind.)

Return to a store
Bring your item with its original product packaging and tags (if available), as well as proof of purchase, to the customer service desk at any of our REI stores for a free and easy return or exchange. Re/Supply stores are unable to accept returns of any kind.
Please note: Purchases of $500 or more made with cash and/or Total REI Rewards will be refunded by check.
Return by mail
Whether you need to return items purchased online or in a retail store, you can begin the mail-in return process online. See exceptions for mail-in returns.
Get your shipping label
Start your mail-in return online to get a shipping label. With an REI shipping label, you can drop off your return at any UPS locations or mail it directly from your home.
No printer? We can provide a QR code for fast paperless drop-off.
Please note: $7.99 will be deducted from your refund to cover return shipping for standard size/weight packages when your return is mailed using the prepaid shipping label provided. See additional information on:

Online, phone and in-store pickup orders
Start a mail-in return for orders placed online, over the phone or for in-store pickup. If you have an online account and are logged in, visit Purchase History, view the order details and select “Start a return” for eligible items in that order. Another option is to use the order number and billing ZIP code (found in your order confirmation email) to manually look up the order and start a return.

Re/Supply used gear returns
Re/Supply is just for REI Co-op Members. Members can shop and trade in used gear at our stores (formerly called Garage Sales) or on our Re/Supply used gear website. All sales are final for Re/Supply used gear sold at REI store locations.
REI has a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on all used products sold on our Re/Supply website. Used gear purchased online must be returned via mail within 30 days of the purchase date. REI stores and our regular REI Returns Department are NOT able to process returns on used gear. To return an item, you’ll need your order number and the last name associated with your order. This information can be found in your order confirmation email. See the Used Gear FAQ for more details.

Refunds and exchanges
Refunds and exchanges are simple, but the process varies slightly depending on how you paid for the item. Get details below.
Gift returns
Returning a gift to any of our stores is easy. Just bring your item with its original product packaging and tags (if available), as well as a gift receipt or proof of purchase, to the customer service desk at any of our REI locations for return or exchange.
To return a gift by mail, follow the instructions for working directly with a carrier to ship a return, and include the following in your package:
- A note requesting a "gift recipient refund," along with the following information:
- Name of gift recipient to be refunded
- Gift recipient member number (if applicable)
- Gift recipient mailing address
- Gift recipient phone number
- Gift recipient email address
- IMPORTANT: If the gift recipient contact details are incomplete and/or a gift recipient refund is not clearly requested, the original purchaser will be refunded.
- A gift receipt or the original proof of purchase.
Please note: All gifts returned by mail will be refunded in the form of a check issued to the gift recipient name and address provided. We’ll email you once we’ve issued a check. Refunds by check can take up to 3 weeks, starting the day we receive your return.
The refund amount may differ from the original total paid due to tax rate differences between purchase and return locations.
